Let us explain 🙂
For those of you who might not know, Explainer videos are short and engaging animated videos that explain an idea in a simple and clear way usually using computer-generated content such as iconography, text, music and voice over. They grab attention and can make even the most boring/dry idea fun.
Explainer videos are simple, they explain a message in a straightforward and accessible way. They also make the message clearer, since text is so open for interpretation, they take much of the ambiguity away by – you guessed it – simply explaining. This can really help make a complicated idea more accessible to the average viewer, making it easier to connect to a potential customer by explaining clearly what exactly you can do for them. Typically, we find that clients who sell online products and services commission Explainers as there can often be very little ‘real’ content to film outside of the contents of a computer screen.
When we make Explainer videos, we start with a concept, brand guidelines and ideally a completed script. Using this we work on locating potential assets and generating a digital storyboard. Once this has been signed off, we begin assembling them together, we will create a basic skeleton video (with limited animations) in order to ensure that we are going the correct direction before diving into animating all the elements.
Our process makes explainer videos a really affordable option. We have access to an almost infinite database of highly customisable graphics, presents and themes available for purchase at a small fee. By working with premade packs, we save a lot of time, thus budget, since we don’t need to spend weeks building everything from scratch.
Explainer videos are great at generating brand recognition, by using a brands guideline (Fonts, colours, logos etc) the video can be fully personalised to the brand, because of this they help a potential customer identify the brand. By being so customisable they help to showcase a brands individual personality.
When making an Explainer video, it is important to have the script locked down as soon as possible as since we are building the video from the ground up, changes to the script can have a drastic impact on the video, however, on the same foot unlike traditionally filmed video, large changes are more feasible.
Ultimately, they are effective for all of the reasons mentioned above. Since they are engaging more people are likely to watch and then share them. Since they are simple more people are likely to retain the message and understand exactly what the call to action is. Since they showcase a brand people are more likely to trust and then follow through with your call to action.
“We produce some many different kinds of video, and whilst we usually start by thinking about what we can film in reality, it’s easy to overlook the options of creating work just in an edit suite. Explainers have been a staple of our creative options for a while, and can be a great choice for the right brief.” says Creative Director Steven Mayatt.
Creating Explainer videos is a really rewarding process as we start with nothing and gradually bring the video to life. Since the possibilities seem so endless, the end result is just as exciting for us as it is for our clients.

“It was a pleasure working with Steven and his team. Their advice at the start was incredibly valuable and, as the project progressed, their unfailingly calm, patient and responsive approach allowed us to create a video we’re incredibly proud of. The feedback we’ve received has been fantastic. I’d highly recommend them.”
